The only thing that I may love more than coffee is ice cream! I know it’s January, but my unwavering love for ice cream knows no bounds. Not to mention, it really is a shame that there are so few ice creameries that are open year-round! I know some of you are probably like, “why don’t you just go to the grocery store and grab yourself some Ben & Jerry’s?” and well, to be frank, Ben & Jerry’s just doesn’t cut it when I know I can have ice cream from The Bent Spoon.
The Bent Spoon’s culinary genius has been recognized by Buzzfeed, New Jersey Monthly Magazine, and Travel and Leisure. Located in Palmer Square, just blocks away from Princeton University, it’s a great stop during college visits, or if you’re just being touristy for the day!
Product: The Bent Spoon makes all of their products on-site, and prides itself on using local, organic products for all of their flavors. They have rotating flavors of ice creams and sorbets with non-traditional flavors such as lavender mascarpone, Jersey sweet corn, and blood orange just to name a few. Some of them sound a little weird, but don’t knock it ’til you try it-they’re delicious, I promise! They also make cookies, cupcakes, and even their own marshmallows that goes in their delicious hot chocolate. My favorite part is that you can even get pints of ice cream and/or your favorite treats to-go! You’ll never get bored with the variety of desserts you can get.
Ambiance: If you’re looking for somewhere to sit down and eat your ice cream, you’re probably going to struggle. The small shop only has one regular sized table, and one small table in the entire place. This gets pretty cramped and uncomfortable during the summer especially. Typically, I walk through the streets of Princeton or find a bench across the street to enjoy every last bit of my dessert! Even though I’d love if there was more seating, their unique flavors definitely makes up for it.
Customer Service: During the summer you can expect for there to be a line out the door. However, the staff behind the counter makes sure they keep the line moving quickly and efficiently. They have indulged my desire to try 3 or 4 different flavors on any given occasion, and are always really nice when I change my mind another 3 or 4 times before they scoop. It is definitely worth the wait! (Also, remember to have cash on you -they don’t accept card.)
